Amazon Consultation Preparation Checklist

A useful first conversation starts with the decisions your business needs to make. You do not need a finished audit or a large presentation. Bring a short outline of your current position, the main challenge and what you would like help deciding.

This is Consultancy Worx's preparation framework for prospective clients. Share only information you are authorised to disclose. You can keep commercially sensitive details for a later discussion under appropriate confidentiality arrangements.

1. Summarise the business and the decision

  • Your brand, product categories and trading model: brand owner, distributor, importer or another arrangement.
  • Where you sell now and which territories you are considering.
  • The decision you need to make: improve an existing account, change support, add advertising or assess a launch.
  • Your main constraint and any deadline that affects the work.

Try to put the brief in one sentence: “We need help deciding how to improve advertising while protecting stock availability.” That gives the conversation a clearer starting point than a broad request to increase sales.

2. Outline the account and catalogue

Note whether you use Seller Central, Vendor Central or both, the approximate catalogue size and the markets involved. Flag variations, suppressed listings, content issues or brand-protection concerns that are taking up time.

If the brand is new to Amazon, explain what is already prepared: product information, imagery, brand assets, fulfilment plans and any specialist advice you have obtained. Questions about territory-specific tax, product requirements or legal obligations should be scoped with the appropriate adviser.

3. Bring a consistent performance snapshot

If you have figures available, choose the same reporting period for sales, advertising spend and advertising-attributed sales. Note the currency, marketplace and whether a promotion, stockout or seasonal event affected that period. Estimates are useful when clearly labelled.

  • Account sales and advertising spend by relevant marketplace.
  • Advertising measures you currently use, with their definitions.
  • Stock availability and any major replenishment constraints.
  • The product-cost and fee information available for commercial reporting.

You can discuss these at a high level during the first call. We will agree any detailed reporting or access requirements separately if a review is proposed.

4. Explain what your team can deliver

Identify who owns pricing, stock, compliance coordination, catalogue updates and creative approvals. Mention current agency or specialist support and any handover requirements. This helps distinguish work you want to delegate from decisions your team needs to retain.

If you need content support, outline which images, copy, videos and brand guidelines already exist. If replenishment is a concern, explain the planning process and lead times rather than focusing only on the current stock figure.

5. Decide what you want from the conversation

Useful outcomes include agreeing whether there is a fit, identifying what needs closer investigation or clarifying the scope for a proposal. The first consultation is a discussion; any detailed audit, deliverables or ongoing work must be agreed separately.

Bring your questions about responsibility, reporting, fees, commitment and account ownership. Our guide to choosing an Amazon agency provides a proposal-review checklist.

What to leave out of an enquiry

Do not send passwords, payment-card details, customer-level exports or information belonging to another client or employer. Use a concise summary for the initial discussion. If account access is needed later, permissions should reflect the agreed scope. See our privacy notice for how enquiry information is handled.
